Odisha police today took notorious Dhalasamanta brothers (D-brothers) on a fresh remand for seven days.
The Sub Division Judicial Magistrate (SDJM)’s court here allowed the Twin City Commissionerate Police to take D-brothers on a fresh remand of seven days to interrogate them on the murder of their former accomplice Omprakash Swain alias Om.
However, the Commissionerate Police’s plea to produce D-brothers in handcuffs has been rejected by the SDJM court.
Earlier in the day, D-brothers and three of their accomplices were produced in the SDJM court here in connection with the murders of Om and Deepak Mallick alias Dipu. While their accomplices Guddu, Debasish and Bhajana could be produced in the court, another accomplice Nirmal Rout could not be produced for health reasons. After their appearance in the court they were sent to Choudwar jail. Polic during its interrogation of D-brothers has come to know that the four accused were involved in the murder of Om.
The court today completed its hearing on the plea of D-brothers alleging torture by the police during interrogation. They had also appealed to the court to allow their lawyers to meet them. The court has kept its verdict reserved on both the pleas of the D-brothers.
Meanwhile, the police today nabbed another accomplice of D-brothers –Chiku from the court premises for his links with them. Police has detained Chiku and is interrogating him. Police has been able to extract several vital leads from him, police sources revealed.
Notably, yesterday, Twin City Commissionerate police had sought seven days further remand of the Dhalasamanta brothers for further interrogation and had pleaded before the court to handcuff them while producing the duo before the court.
Later in the evening yesterday, police grilled the working president of Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangha Debasish Ghosh for his alleged links with the notorious duo.
After nearly two hours of questioning at Chauliaganj police station, Ghosh was allowed to leave. Police reportedly asked him about the matters pertaining to financial transactions and its source of funding.
I cooperated with the police during interrogation, Ghosh said after coming out of the police station.
On the other hand, while suspense continues over the contents of the diary seized from the residence of the D-brothers, the discreet silence of the police on its contents have further added to the speculations of political biggies involvement with the D-brothers.
