Bhubaneswar, Aug 24:
The Twin City Commissionerate Police today submitted yet another charge sheet against notorious inter-state sex racketeer Sunil Meher at the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court in the Odisha capital.
Chandrasekharpur police have named prime accused Meher and pimp Somesh Panda in the 85-page charge sheet.
The charge sheet contains statements of 20 witnesses including that of the Kyrgyz woman who was rescued during a raid by the police.
This is the third charge sheet submitted by the police against Meher. Earlier, Nayapalli police have submitted two charge sheets against him.
“We have submitted the charge sheet in connection with the Chandrasekharpur case. His income cited in charge sheet has been stated as per his statement. We will try to present a strong case against him,” said Satyabrata Bhoi, DCP Bhubaneswar.
It may be mentioned here that police during a raid on March 23 this year had busted a high-profile sex racket run by Meher operating from 7th Avenue Apartments under Chandrasekharpur police station limits. While police had rescued a Kyrgyz woman, it had arrested pimp Somesh Panda during the raid. Rescue of a woman of foreign origin during the raid had created a flutter in the capital city.
Reportedly, the Kyrgyz woman used to charge anything between Rs 20,000 -50,000 from customers for spending a night with her. And interestingly, customers used to pay through cheques. Police had seized a few of these cheques from the apartment during the raid. The Kyrgyz woman had come to Bhubaneswar via Goa and Mumbai.
Meher who was arrested by the Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Commissionerate Police from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Dum Dum area in Kolkata on April 21, this year has been charged under sections 370 clause-1, 109, 34 etc of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is currently lodged in the Jharpada .
