Cuttack, Jun 12:

Twin City Commissionerate police today nabbed the under-trial prisoner (UTP) from here who had escaped from the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack on Friday after hoodwinking a jail staff who was guarding him.

As per police sources, the UTP– Pramod Kumar Mohanty– was nabbed from Jhanjhirmangala area in the city.

“The under-trial prisoner of Choudwar Circle Jail was admitted to the TB and Chest ward of SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment on June 8. However, he escaped from the premises two days later at around 6.30 am. We had formed a team to arrest him. A team of Bidanasi police arrested him from a house in Jhanjirmanagala area in the city today. He will be forwarded to court later in the day,” Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora said.

Interestingly, the 53-year-old man had escaped from the hospital through the bathroom louvre while he had gone to attend nature’s call. When he did not respond after some time, the warder broke into the bathroom to find the broken ventilator. Following this, the warder—Rabindra Kumar Kar—was placed under suspension for dereliction of duty.

Notably, Mohanty, a native of Mathasahi in Tulasipur area, was arrested by Bidanasi police on July 7, 2013 for his alleged complicity in the murder of his brother Prabhat.
