Bhubaneswar, Jul 16:
In the sensational Dillip Nayak murder case near at Patrapada on the outskirts of Odisha’s capital city, the Commissionerate Police today approached the SDJM court here seeking a Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) against main accused Raju Barik.
Raju has been on the run since the day of the shooting on June 18. The cops have not been able to arrest the singer turned politician turned contract mafia even though they managed to arrest three persons, including Raju’s elder brother Jaya Barik.
The commissionerate police are taking this step to build legal pressure on him which they hope would force him to surrender. The court will take a call on issuance of the NBW after examining the documents produced by the police.
The police would declare him a fugitive if the court allows a NBW against him based on Section -82 of CrPC. This move will also empower the cops to approach the court for an order to confiscate his property based on Section -83 of CrPC.
It may be noted that the 35-year-old contractor Dillip Nayak was shot dead by rival Raju’s group near a construction site behind the AIIMS Hospital in Patrapada under Khandagiri police station on June 18. Though police have constituted several teams to nab Barik, he is yet to be traced.
Hundreds of protesters, including the family members and the associates of deceased Dileep had protested outside the Khandagiri police station on June 29 demanding the arrest of Raju. However, the cops have not been able to trace him so far.
