With the arrest of at least 17 people involved in several dacoity incidents in the Twin City, including the burglary at film producer Jasobanta Devata’s house in Madhupatna in Odisha’s Cuttack city on July 19, Commissionerate police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang.
The accused were involved in the burglary the house of Devata, who is a film producer and the owner of Samrat Talkies in Cuttack city. Besides, they were also involved in three other cases at Khandagiri and Dhauli areas of Bhubaneswar, police said.
“Nine of the 17 people arrested are members of an inter-state gang. Eight of the arrested gang members belong to Uttar Pradesh while one hails from Madhya Pradesh. The gang was active in about 10 districts in the state. Besides, the police have also arrested four receivers of stolen goods and four auto drivers in this connection,” Twin city police commissioner R P Sharma said.
At least 360 gm gold, 4 kg silver ornaments, Rs 1.78 lakh cash and two vehicles were seized from their possession, Sharma informed.
It may be recalled that at least seven people had broken into the house of Devata and decamped with about 250 grams of gold and nearly Rs 4 lakh in cash in the wee hours of July 19.
