Odisha police arrests three for torturing woman

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Aska, Nov 23:

Police today arrested three persons of family including a woman for thrashing an elderly woman in Gunthapada village under Kabisuryanagar police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

Those arrested are Narahari Pradhan’s wife Premlata Pradhan and her two sons Mithun and Sagar, police sources said.

Narahari’s family had lodged a complaint of theft at the Balichai police outpost last month. They had named the victim as the accused in their complaint alleging that she had stolen gold ornaments from their house.

However, allegedly police had taken no action in the matter.

Peeved over police inaction Narahari’s wife and his sons today literally lifted the elderly woman from her home and tying her to a pole in the middle of the village road subjected her to torture for hours, while fellow villagers watched the scene none came to rescue her neither did they protest.

As news spread police reached the spot and rescued the woman while arresting the mother son trio.

The three were forwarded to court later in the day.
