Bhubaneswar, Feb 4:

The authorities of the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) have finally woken up from deep slumber after realizing that barring the Science papers, it would not be possible for them to complete e-evaluation of Plus Two answer sheets of the remaining streams after one month of the annual examinations in Odisha which is scheduled to begin from March 2.

CHSE LOGOIt may be mentioned that though the Higher Education minister Pradip Kumar Panigrahi had announced that e-evaluation of all answer sheets of the annual Plus Two examinations would be held this year, the Council had not taken any steps.

The Council, after a long delay, had invited tender on January 29 this year for scanning and imaging of answer sheets for e-evaluation after which it had decided to purchase the required equipment for this purpose and impart training to the teachers to be engaged in the online evaluation.

However, at a high level meeting at the State Secretariat here on Tuesday, the Council authorities realized that it would not be possible for them to go for e-evaluation of answer sheets of Science, Arts and Commerce streams.

The meeting, presided over by the Higher Education minister, later decided to conduct e-evaluation of Science papers only.

As informed by a senior Council official, e-evaluation of a total of 94952 answer sheets of the Science papers would be made this year for which 3200 examiners and 400 chief examiners would be imparted training.

“The Council authorities, who had earlier decided to e-evaluate answer sheets of Science, Arts and Commerce streams in which a total of 3,71,920 students are scheduled to appear the examinations this year, decided to conduct e-evaluation of only Science papers as it would not be possible for them to employ at least 15,000 examiners and impart training for e-evaluation of papers of all streams within a month,” the official added.

Among others, secretary, Higher Education, Gagan Dhal; additional secretary Durga Prasad Behera; Director, Higher Education, Prof Nihar Ranjan Patnaik; CHSE chairman Prof Basudeb Chhatoi and senior officials of the department and Council were present at the meeting.
