Odisha people to have say in state budget

Aiming to involve people in the budget preparation exercise, Odisha government has planned to solicit opinion/suggestions from the people of the state through website and mobile phone messages, Finance Minister Pradip Amat told reporters here today.

“We are taking up a programme to solicit opinions/suggestions from the general public of the state through websites and mobile phone messages during the preparation of the state’s annual budget. This will ensure participation of the people of the state in the preparation of the state’s annual budget,” said Amat, while conveying his best wishes to the people of the state for the New Year.

The proposal has been sent for the Chief Minister’s approval and on him giving the green signal, the programme will be implemented.

The Finance Minister said: “My department in the current year aims to expand the scope of revenue collection as well as increase its generation. Further we have initiated a programme to make government expenditure more productive/effective. The department will strive for completion of all infrastructure initiatives that have been taken up.”

The department also has plans for an integrated utilization of resources available both in the budget as well as outside the budget, Amat said. Similarly, proper utilization of Central assistance will be monitored, he added.
