Bhubaneswar, July 18:
The Laxmanananda Saraswati Smruti Samiti today demanded capital punishment for ‘dreaded’ Maoist leader of Odisha, Sabyasachi Panda, who was arrested by the police from a house at Bada Bazar area in Brahmapur in the late night hours on Thursday.
“Let the police administration take necessary steps to ensure that this dreaded Maoist leader is sent to the gallows as punishment for his brutal killings of innocent people including senior VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati,” said Dr Laxmikanta Das, state president of the Samiti in a release here today.
Thanking the police for their belated success in nabbing the fugitive ultra who had unleashed a reign of terror and was instrumental in impeding developmental activities in his area of operation, he said Panda, the mastermind in the murder of the Swamiji, had openly claimed his involvement in the ghastly murder by sending press and audio releases to the media. Apart from this, he was also involved in several criminal activities.
“A thorough interrogation of this dreaded Maoist would reveal the exact cause of murder of the Swamiji and involvement of other persons or ogranisations in the heinous crime,” Das hoped and warned the state government against any leniency towards this ‘hardened criminal.’
