Bhubaneswar: Barely 48 hours before the beginning of the first phase polls Maoists have unleashed terror in Chhattisgarh prompting the Odisha police to issue red alert in the state.

DGP in-charge BK Sharma issued advisory to all the SPs of the districts to remain on alert. Besides, the top cop has advised the contestants not to venture out for campaigning in the Maoist-infested areas.

In addition to this, Sharma has asked the politicians to keep the local police informed about their tour plans.

This comes in the wake of the deadly attack on a MLA’s convoy in Chhattisgarh in which the legislator and four others were killed.

On the other hand, a 50-kg landmine was recovered from under a bridge at Adaba in Gajapati district today. Security personnel defused the explosive.

“Security personnel spotted the landmine planted under a bridge. A long wire guided the personnel to the bridge. The explosive has likely been planted by the Maoists to disrupt election process,” Gajapati SP Sara Sharma said.
