Odisha Nursing Employees’ Association withdraws cease-work stir

The Odisha Nursing Employees Association today withdrew its cease-work stir hours after launching the agitation following assurance by Cuttack Barabati MLA Debashish Samantaray and Cuttack Choudwar MLA Prabhat Biswal to apprise the government of the nurses’ demands.


The body called off the stir after the two legislators promised to apprise the Health Minister of their demands, informed association’s secretary Prabhati Mohanty.

A meeting was held between the two MLAs and members of the association at the office of superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

Earlier in the day, as many as 5600 nurses across the state joined the stir for which health services at all the district headquarters hospitals and state-run medical colleges were affected for a while.

The demands of the nurses include regularization of staff nurses working under National Health Mission and those who have completed six years in service and hike in basic pay from Rs 5200 to Rs 9300 along with a grade pay of Rs 4200.
