Bhubaneswar, Dec 10:
It was a star-studded event on the maiden edition of day-long Odisha Nirman Conclave where eminent personalities expressed their views on taking the state to newer heights.
Odisha has a glorious past. Konark, Puri and Bhubaneswar stand testimony to it. We need proper planning, courage and resources to reconstruct it. The aim of the conclave is to make the Odias prosperous, proud, skilled and courageous. We need a clear picture and blueprint of its implementation prior to embarking on the journey, said editor of Sambad Soumya Ranjan Patnaik.
We have to make Odia people self-reliant not dependent. If we continue to look up to others to help us then we won’t be able to prosper. Odisha’s natural resources reserve is higher than many countries’ reserve. About 70% people in Odisha are dependent on agriculture but it contributes to only 15% of GDP, said Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Odisha has fared well in agriculture as compared to previous years, state Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy.
All need to know their own language and culture. I regret not to have learnt Odia early, said Panchami Manoo Ukil.
Before coming to Odisha, I knew only about Konark and Odisi. It will take a lifetime to learn aobut Odisha, said Padmashri Ileana Citaristi.
The conflict of I and we continues. The government is not working for the overall development of people. The government didn’t take Opposition on board for Make in Odisha event, Congress MP Ranjib Biswal said.
A leader is like a driver of a vehicle. If he is not competent then he might meet with an accident. The opposition is like a traffic police who guides the vehicle and blows whistle when he violates the rules, says senior BJP leader Suresh Pujari.
Even a well-to-do person wears a drooping face and aspires to obtain a ration card. It is a matter of priviledge to be a poor in Odisha. The welfare schemes have made people worthless. One should know that there is not alternative to hardwork. We need to motivate people for better tomorrow, Utkal Bharat founder Kharavel Swain said.
The growth indicators have not been manipulated. Odisha has fared on many counts. The Make in Odisha conclave was organized for investors, Industries Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said.
You can’t expect the govt to build start-ups. They have infrastructure, but you need to facilitate it, said founder of Milk Mantra Srikumar Misra.
We don’t want to read Odia books or listen to Odia songs, said programming head of Sarthak Arjya Patnaik.
I am proud of Ollywood industry and I constantly strive to contribute, said actor Archita Sahu.
