Pulling of the chariots of Devi Suvadra and Lord Jagannath, which were stranded in Bada Danda on the first day of the Nabakalebara Rath Yatra in Odisha’s Puri town, began this morning by the enthusiastic devotees.
According to reports, the Daitapatis performed the Mailam, Abakasha and Tadap Lagi rituals of the Lords this morning by 8.30 AM.
After the completion of the rituals, pulling of the Darpadalan chariot of Lord Suvadra began at 9 AM while the Nandighosh chariot of Lord Jagannath was pulled at 9.20 AM.
Following the death of two women devotees in stampede yesterday, police have taken special measures to ensure no such unfortunate occurrences during the pulling of the two chariots today.
The two chariots would be taken to Saradhabali near Sri Gundicha temple.
While the Taladhwaja chariot of Lord Balabhadra had arrived at Saradhabali yesterday, the chariots of the Devi Suvadra and Lord Jagannath were halted at at Badasankha and Balagandi respectively as the evening set in.
“The pahandi of the deities would be held on Monday”, said Ramakrushna Das Mohapatra, president of the Daitapati Nijog.
