Nayagarh, Sept 6:
The mortal remains of Kandhamal BJD MP Hemendra Chandra Singh were consigned to flames at his native place at Nayagarh in Odisha this afternoon.
The cremation was performed at the Puruna Rajbati (old royal palace) premises where the son of Hemendra, Aryan Raj Singh lit the funeral pyre in presence of senior BJD leaders, ministers, members of the royal family of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand and thousands of people of Naygarh town.
Odisha ministers, Arun Sahu, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Lal Bihari Himirika, Bikram Arukh, former minister Pratap Dev and Pinaki Mishra MP were present at the cremation site.
Earlier in the day, the body of Singh arrived at Nayagarh town from Bhubaneswar in a hearse van.
The body was later taken in a procession around the town where thousands of people had a last glimpse of their departed leader.
