Bhubaneswar, Sept 5:
The body of BJD MP of Kandhamal, Hemendra Chandra Singh, who died at Amri Hospital in the Odisha’s capital city last night, would be taken to his native place Nayagarh tomorrow for cremation.
Singh’s body was brought to his residence at Suryanagar in the city where several BJD leaders and workers, including party chief and chief minister Naveen Patnaik, and senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik paid their last respects to the departed leader.
Expressing profound grief, the chief minister said Singh was elected to Lok Sabha for the first time. “His sad and premature demise is a huge loss to the party as well as the state,” he said.
“I had close association with Singh during his tenure in the Congress. He was a committed leader, who had worked for the poor and downtrodden. I offer my deep condolence to the bereaved family members to bear the profound loss of Singh,” said senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik.
Besides, other BJD leaders including Finance minister Pradip Amat, Badri Narayan Patra, Arun Sahu and Atanu Sabyasachi Patnaik also expressed their profound grief over Singh’s untimely death.
