Bhubaneswar: Nabarangpur MP and former BJD leader Balabhadra Majhi today joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of 2019 elections.
He joined the saffron party in presence of BJP’s national vice president Baijayant Panda, union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram and BJP’s Odisha in-charge Arun Singh during a programme in New Delhi.
On March 14, the parliamentarian had resigned from Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) citing ‘sideline’ by the party.
“I was being ignored in the party during discussions and meetings, for which I resigned,” Majhi had told media after quitting the party.
Majhi is believed to be a strong contender in the tribal district Nabarangpur against BJD and Congress’ probable candidates in the upcoming 2019 elections. He had defeated Congress’ Pradeep Majhi in Nabarangpur in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
