Bhubaneswar, Apr 21:
In a curious turn of events in the much discussed Pankaj Mahakud and Kavita Mahakud marriage controversy, the statement of Pankaj recorded by Mahila Police Station officer Bijayini Malla was leaked out to the media today.
Interestingly, as per the statement, Pankaj has claimed Kavita to be his sister-in-law’s relative and the pictorial evidence submitted by Kavita to be morphed.
“She is my sister-in-law’s relative. I got to know her while visiting my sister-in-law (brother’s wife). I used to treat her as my sister-in-law. I never had and do not have any other kind of relationship with her. I never married her,” reads the statement.
Kavita, on the other hand, warned to approach the court against this denial.
“I would like him to come out and tell me how I got his ATM cards, his personal belongings if he never stayed with me. I want him to say the same stuff he told the cops on my face. Let the cops investigate the issue and find out if he stayed in Malkangiri with me,” said Kavita reacting to the development.
“I don’t want money or a settlement deal, but proper identify for our daughter. I would be left with no choice but to approach the court and seek a paternity test, if he continues to deny his relation with me. I am sure, if he buckling under pressure from Sanatan Mahakud,” she added.
Notably, Pankaj is the son of independent Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud.
On March 1, the woman — identified as Kavita — claimed herself to be the wife of Pankaj and filed a complaint of physical and mental harassment against the Champua MLA at the Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar.
Based on her complaint, the police had registered a case under Sections 498 A, 341, 294 and 34 of the IPC.
Bijayini Malla, a police officer of the Mahila Police Station had visited Pankaj’s house in Keonjhar district to record his statement since he did not turn up before the police to record his deposition despite being served with notice to appear in person at the police station within 15 days.
