Rourkela: Odisha MLA Dilip Ray today urged Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to reconsider its decision on stopping flight operation from Rourkela airport.
“It is nothing less than frustrating that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has stopped flight operation from Rourkela Airport citing deficient infrastructure and lack of maintenance. This is definitely a shocking development as the city was selected for air connectivity under the UDAN scheme. The DGCA has also cited failure in the renewal of license as another cause for its direction. I appeal DGCA to review its decision and allow time to the government to build the requisite facilities and comply with the procedural stipulations so that air connectivity to the city could be established and people of Rourkela could get the benefits of air travel,” BJP leader and local MLA Dilip Ray said.
There was a committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to expedite the building of the required infrastructure with the help of both the state and the central government. The state government too had also agreed to reduce VAT on aviation fuel and facilitate water and electricity supply, he added.
The Rourkela legislator took to social networking site where he appealed to the civil aviation body to do the needful to facilitate air connectivity to the steel city.
