Sundargarh: The district police have rescued a minor girl of Lephripara who was allegedly sold in Uttar Pradesh for Rs 60,000 and arrested three middlemen, including a married couple, in this connection, informed Sundargarh SP Saumya Mishra at a press conference here today.
According to police sources, Panchami Kamar, a relative of the girl, and accused couple Choudhury Pushpendra Singh & Bimala Choudhury had taken the victim to Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh on the pretext of providing her a job.
However, the trio sold the girl to an elderly man of Muzaffarnagar for Rs 60,000. The person later married the girl, the SP said.
The family members of the victim had lodged a missing complaint with police in this regard. Acting on the complaint, Sundargarh police rescued the girl from Muzaffarnagar and apprehended the three accused. They have been forwarded to court.
