Bhubaneswar, Oct 16:
The Supreme Court appointed Central Empowered Committee (CEC) would submit its final report on illegal mining in Odisha to the apex court on Friday.
“The CEC would submit its report to the Supreme Court on multi-crore mining scam in Odisha tomorrow. The report would analyse views of mine leaseholders, state government officers and recommendations of Justice M B Shah Commission, which probed illegal mining in the state,” said an informed source.
While the CEC report would determine the fate of mining sector in the state, recommendation for a ban on mining activities in the state, which can affect the industrial sector very badly, is unlikely, the source added.
In April, the apex court had asked the CEC to prepare a report on illegal mining in Odisha. The CEC had examined 187 mines including iron ore and manganese of the state and also heard the contentions of miners and the state government before preparing the final report.
