IMS was closed sine die yesterday after tension prevailed in the campus for hours over the death of a student who was found hanging in his hostel room in the morning.

Manish Dhal, a first year MBBS student was found hanging from the ceiling in his room in Hostel No 1 of IMS.

SOA authorities have declared the college closed sine die and directed borders to vacate their hostels immediately after angry students went on a rampage breaking glass panes and staging a dharna in the campus for over four hours.

Hundreds of first-year MBBS students held a protest in front of Hostel-1 demanding the resignation of the Vice Chancellor of the SOA university.

Later, the students ransacked the hostel properties after failing to get their demands fulfilled.

Manish’s friends say there was no response from him when they knocked on his door to call him to go to the class this morning. They then entered the room by breaking open the lock of the door and found him hanging from the ceiling.

“They informed other students and hostel warden, who rushed to the spot. Police was also informed,” a senior police official said.

He was rushed to the casualty in SUM hospital where he was declared brought dead.

“Manish was known to be a good student and his colleagues always found him friendly and active. He had informed me earlier that the college authorities had barred him from the semester examination because of poor attendance. He was disturbed for the last few days and might have taken this extreme step in a state of depression,” said one of his friends on the condition of anonymity.

Police are probing the incident.

  1. These Private colleges are run by donation from students who do not qualify for Govt. Medical Colleges and later these PVT. colleges start harassing the students to get marks. Why did you take donations if you needed good students? Why your fees so high if your faculties are so incompetent? Stop all such private hospitals who are just running business to loot patients and students.

    • Dey forced d lil boy to force himself to death…n we never thought dt we ll see dis day atlast in ds clg… d blck day of clg

    • You are wrong. Not all can pay the donation and get admitted to private medical college as medical seats are not available as the engineering seats. Second most of the candidates get seat in these colleges by qualifying in their entrance exams, only few as five to six seats are in management quota.
Secondly the fees of private college is very high because these colleges dont get any kind of financial help from government.
Third thing is that a candidate is forced to take admission in private college because most seats reserved by SC, ST,OBC(most of these people are just failures in 10th and10+2 class) for which very less seats are remained for the deserving candidates.
I hope i cleared your misunderstanding about the high fees structure of private college
