According to police, Biswajit Mistry, a native of Chhatabeda village under Raighar police station limits of Umerkote block and a para teacher at Indra Nagar Primary School, was on the way to his village on his bike after the school was closed at 11 AM, when Prasant Panda, his childhood friend, hiding nearby, suddenly attacked him with a bamboo stick on the outskirt of Chhatabeda village. As Biswajit fell down from his bike, Panda poured kerosene on his body and bike and set fire on them.

“The accused later surrendered before the Raighar police while confessing his crime,” Gopinath Mohapatra, SDPO, Umertoke, told the media.

He also informed that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused had threatened his friend as he had disclosed some of his immoral activities to the people.

Talking to the media, a relative of Biswajit said the accused, before killing him, had frequently threatened him earlier.

“We have started interrogation of the accused to elicit more information”, the SDPO added.
