Soro: A person was today detained by Simulia police for allegedly depositing fake currency notes of Rs 44,000 in denomination of Rs 2,000 at Khirikana Cooperative Society in Soro area of Odisha’s Balasore district.
“One Bishnu Nayak of Biranchipur village had gone to the Khirikana Cooperative Society to deposit Rs 1.5 lakh in denomination of Rs 2,000. Out of the 75 notes, 22 were detected as counterfeit ones at the cash counter,” said Simulia police station IIC Sanjay Parida.
On being informed by the bank officials, police reached the spot and detained Nayak for questioning.
“Investigation into the matter is underway. We are trying to ascertain whether there is involvement of any fake currency note racket in the incident,” the IIC added.
