Odisha man hacks two women to death over sorcery suspicion

Rairangpur: A person allegedly murdered two women and injured another after suspecting them of practising witchcraft at Madhupur village under Rairangpur block of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district today.

Accused Shyam Baske allegedly hacked the deceased duo with an axe and injured another woman by shooting arrow at her. The victim woman has been admitted to Jamda hospital for treatment.

The deceased were identified as Karmi Murmu (65) and Surya Hembram (60). Bakse surrendered before police after the incident.

Reports said, the accused committed the crime as he was distressed over his wife’s repeated miscarriages. He suspected that his wife’s repeated failure to deliver a child was a result of witchcraft practised by the three elderly women.
