A lecherous man from Odisha landed in trouble after the tech-savvy victim sent an SOS on her smartphone seeking help onboard New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express on Thursday.
According to reports, a woman was travelling on Rajdhani Express originating from Bhubaneswar this morning. While she was asleep, the accused Bani Prasad Mohanty groped her. She woke up and protested the indecent behavior. Despite her strong resistance, the accused kept on forcing on to her.
In the meantime, the victim – a student – sent a message on social networking site Facebook owing which one of her friends tweeted it tagging Railway Ministry and Minister Suresh Prabhu. The Minister swung into action and directed the concerned officials to take appropriate action against the errant.
Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel drove the 50-year-old out of the compartment and deboarded him at Tata Nagar. Then, the accused was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Bhadrak. He was forwarded to court later in the day.
“The accused Bani Prasad Mohanty has been arrested by Tata Nagar for molesting a woman passenger. He was handed over to Bhadrak GRP,” Bhadrak GRP OIC Dharanidhar Pradhan said.
The accused, however, dismissed the allegations.
“The allegations are baseless and untrue. The rules enacted for the safety of women are welcomed but it should not be misused,” the accused expressed.
The accused hails from Udaygiri area in Khurda district.
“There can be no compromise when it comes to safety of our women passengers. Any deviance will be dealt severely,” Suresh Prabhu tweeted.
The girl studying in Ramjas College in New Delhi was escorted all throughout the journey till the destination.
