Puri, June 28:
Leader of the Opposition in the Odisha Assembly and senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra today reiterated his party’s demand for a judicial inquiry into the mess during the Brahma Parivartan of the presiding deities of Shree Jagannath temple in Puri.
Addressing a press conference here, Mishra said only a judicial inquiry can unravel the truth about the circumstances in which the Brahma Parivartan was delayed, the reasons for the delay and the persons responsible for it.
The senior Congress leader wondered what was preventing the state government from ordering for a judicial inquiry into the incident.
“Perhaps the honourable Chief Minister considers he is guilty and has realized that he has committed a great sin or a big mistake and if there is an inquiry will be caught. That is why he has refrained from announcing a judicial inquiry into the incident,” said Mishra.
“In the past, the Chief Minister used to order judicial inquiries at the drop of a hat. But he is silent now, which means he is feeling guilty,” Mishra said stressing that the allegation of theft of Brahma was a serious charge that neede to be probed.
“This allegation is so serious that it cannot be told in words. Since such a serious allegation has come to the fore, we are demanding an impartial inquiry at the earliest. Let the truth come out in the open or if the Chief Minister has some facts with him he should come out and make a statement on it to the people. The Chief Minister has remained silent. Why does one remain silent? Either when he feels nothing has happened or when he feels that he is guilty. At least now, nobody can claim that nothing has happened. Whether it was a disorder or an accident, everyone has accepted that there has been bungling. The second truth is that the Chief Minister considers himself to have committed some sin or wrong,” said Mishra.
Earlier in the day, a team of the Congress leaders led by Mishra met Puri collector and SP and discussed the matter with the Biswabasu of the Banajaga Yatra team Binayak Das Mohapatra before holding the press meet.
