Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today launched the Biju Sishu Suraksha Yojana aimed at facilitating care and protection towards orphans and HIV affected children of the state.


Launching the scheme at a public event held at the Jayadev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, Patnaik announced that the State Government will bear the educational expense of these children and provide them scholarship for higher education among other benefits.

Besides, the girl beneficiaries will be given Sukanya accounts and the government will facilitate assistance at the time of their marriage.

In the same event, Patnaik also announced the functioning of the ‘Odisha multi-sectoral action plan’ aimed at fortifying the nutritional needs of mothers and children of the state.

This action plan is being jointly worked on by the State Government and Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives (APPI). It will be launched in 2017 and will continue till 2020.

The State Government expects the programme to be of benefit to all the mothers and children of the state across the urban, rural divide. Besides, the programme is also expected to lay foundation to the development targets aimed to be achieved by 2030.
