New Delhi, July 8:

The NDA government’s railway budget presented today in the Parliament didn’t have much for Odisha as in earlier years. Railway minister Sadananda Gowda neglected Odisha as his predecessors in the railway budget, sources said.Indian_Railway

Of the five general trains, five premium trains and 27 new express trains, Odisha has a negligible share.

The minister announced new trains like the Hatia-Rourkela Passenger, Paradip-Visakhapatnam weekly express and Sambalpur-Rourkela train for six days a week for the state.

The budget has proposed a weekly Paradip-Howrah Express train, extension of Howrah-Belda  Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train up to Jaleswar. Two premium trains Shalimar-Chennai  and Bengaluru-Kamakshya express will now pass through Odisha.

The railway budget also proposed connecting  Jharsuguda and Subdega coal bearing areas for faster and easier transportation of coal .

Moreover, the railway budget proposed for the construction of railway line between Nayagarh in Keonjhar district to Banspani  for transportation of iron ore.

Odisha’s Astaranga port project in Puri district has been included under the Sagarmala project – intended for providing rail connectivity to sea ports in the country.
