Ramakrushna Sikhya Kendra rode on a brace by Milan Behera to beat Unit-VI Govt Boys’ High School 2-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the 25th Kalinga Marine-Bibekananda Memorial (KMBM) Inter-School Football Tournament at Unit-VI Govt Boys’ High School ground in the Odisha’s capital city here today.
Milan struck in the 9th and 28th minute to put Ramakrushna Sikhya Kendra in a commanding position. Despite playing on home turf, Unit-VI boys looked off-colour in the first half. But backed by local crowd they made a late fight back to reduce the margin through Sanjib Rao in the 34th minute.
However, Ramakrushna boys’ warded off a couple of dangerous attacks towards the fag end of the match to clinch a fighting win. Milan was adjudged the man of the match.
Tapovan beat DAV CS Pur
In the other match, Tapoban High School reached the last-eight after they beat DAV School, Chandrasekharpur by 5-2 goals via tie-breaker.
Play in the regulation time ended in 1-1 draw with DAV taking lead through Biswajit in the 18th minute and Nabin Hembrum equalising for Tapoban in the next minute.
In the penalty shootout, Mohan Hansda, Bagun Singh, Hindu Naik and Munaram Murmu scored for Tapoban, while only Debasis Lenka converted his spot kick for DAV.
However, DAV goalkeeper Sraban Mohanty, who effected three spectacular saves in the regulation time, was named the man of the match.
The last two pre-quarterfinals will be played on Monday with former champions Sainik School meeting Vikash Residential School and Kendriya Vidyalaya No-2 taking on BJEM School.
On Sunday, Host Unit-VI Athletic Association will conduct a long-distance kicking and target shooting competition for school students as part of golden jubilee celebration of the tournament.
