Bhubaneswar, Sept 8:
Former champions Sainik School and Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium (BJEM) School completed the quarterfinal line-up, posting contrasting wins in the last two pre-quarterfinal matches of the 25th Kalinga Marine-Bibekananda Memorial (KMBM) Inter-School Football Tournament at Unit-VI Govt Boys’ High School ground in Odisha’s capital city here today.
Putting up dominant performance, Sanik School outplayed Vikash Residential School 2-0. Durlav Tudu and SK Behera scored the two goals in the 17th and 46th minutes respectively. The latter was adjudged the man of the match.
Later in the day, BJEM School faced a stiff fight against Kendriya Vidyalaya No 2 before romping home 5-3 in penalty shootout.
In regulation time, BJEM took the lead through Rohit Anurag Hembrum in the eighth minute, while Kendriya Vidyalaya rallied to equalise through Sasank Routray in the 50th minute.
Kendriya Vidyalaya’s gamble to change their goalkeeper in the tie-breaker backfired as BJEM clinched victory by converting the first four of their spot kicks through Pruthvi Das, Avijit Sahoo, Siddharth Mohanty and Pratyush Mohapatra.
For Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ashutosh Basantara and Dilip Mangaraj scored, while Avinash Samal and Sarthak Patnaik missed the target.
BJEM goalkeeper Pratyush Mohapatra, who put up an impressive performance, was named the man of the match.
In the quarterfinals, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) would meet Sai International School and Kalinga Bidyapitha would meet Delhi Public School (DPS) on September 10 while Tapoban High School would meet Sainik School and BJEM School would take on Ramakrushna Sikhya Kendra on September 11.
