Odisha journalist Niradhar Panda’s untimely death condoled

The untimely death of well known Odisha journalist and activist Niradhar Panda has come as a shock for the media fraternity as well as civil society circles across the state.

Niradhar PandaPanda, who was 49 years old succumbed to cancer at the  Acharya Harihar Cancer Hospital here on October 15. His last rites were performed on the banks of river Mahanadi on Thursday.

He is survived by his widow and only daughter.

Niradhar Panda, popularly known as Ruba was a journalist for over 20 yrs. A mechanical engineer by training, he left the lucrative career to serve the people. A frontline leader of the People’s Media Initiative (PMI), he chose journalism as the medium to fight for the downtrodden and marginalised sections of the society.

Born in Jagatpur,Cuttack on 31 December 1965, Niradhar had worked for the leading Odia daily The Samaja , Ajira Orissa, Media Odisha News and the Samaya . He was also the president of Cuttack Gramanchal Sambadika Sangh and working president of PMI Odisha Chapter.

Journalists and civil society activists in Odisha have condoled Panda’s death.
