As part of the preparatory measures for the Nabakalebara festival scheduled to be held next year in the holy city of Puri in Odisha, a team of state intelligence officials led by IG, Intelligence, Soumendra Priyadarshi reviewed the security arrangements in and around the Sri Jagannath temple on Monday.
The state Home department has given top priority to the security- related issues at the Shri Jagannath temple in view of the mammoth congregation in Puri for weeks during the Nabakalebara event.
The IG, intelligence, Priyadarshi, accompanied by his colleagues, inspected security arrangements inside the temple and watched the functioning of 21 CCTV cameras installed inside the temple premises. He advised the concerned authorities to take steps to enhance the photo capturing potential of these cameras.
The intelligence team went round the four gates of the Sri Jagannath temple, four sides of the temple wall (Meghanada Pacheri), Ratha Khala, Ratha Chakada, Singhadwar and Sri Gundicha temple.
The IG said tight security arrangements would be put in place to keep a strict vigil on suspicious elements during Nabakalebara.
Apart from security arrangements inside the Shri Jagannath temple, the intelligence team will also keep an eye on the four sides of the temple, Singhadwara, Bada Danda (Grand Road) and the interior and exterior of the Sri Gundicha temple.
