Odisha hosp tragedy: One more succumbs, toll reaches 29

Bhubaneswar, Oct 28:

The death toll in the tragic SUM Hospital fire mishap mounted to 29 with a person succumbing to injuries at Neelachal Hospital in Odisha capital today.


The deceased was identified as Gopal Dalei of Jatani in Khordha district.

Dalei was shifted to Neelachal Hospital after the fire mishap in Sum Hospital. However, he took his last breath today while undergoing treatment, sources said.

It may be recalled here that 19 patients undergoing treatment at the SUM Hospital had died due to asphyxiation owing to the massive fire on October 17 which originated from the dialysis ward on the first floor and spread to the ICU on the same floor. In the incident, over 100 others sustained injuries and were shifted to various government and private hospitals.

Later, the death toll increased gradually with more relocated patients succumbing at different hospitals.
