Bhubaneswar: With an aim to check migration, the Odisha Government today increased the minimum daily wages of unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled labourers. A Gazette notification in this regard was issued by the Labour and ESI Department today.

As per the notification, the minimum daily wage of unskilled labourers has been hiked from the Rs 200 to Rs 280, semi-skilled workers from Rs 220 to Rs 320, skilled workers from Rs 240 to Rs 370 and highly-skilled workers from Rs 260 to Rs 430. Besides, wages for piece rate work under 15 employments have been enhanced for the labourers.

The State Minimum Wages Advisory Board and the State Government revised the minimum wage after three years taking into account factors like inflation rate, increase in consumer index price and prevailing minimum wage in neighbouring States and the prevailing rates in market.

Besides, the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) will be revised every six months in the interest of labourers.

“Employees working in minor ports will now get benefit of the revised minimum wages as minor ports have been added to the list of scheduled employments,” said a press release issued by the department concerned.
