Cuttack, June 11:
The Odisha High Court Wednesday issued notices to the state government, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and others as to why devotees should not be allowed to have darshan of the Lords on the Nabajoubana darshan day, this being the Nabakalebara year.
Adjudicating on a petition seeking to declare the decision to ban the age old tradition of devotees having darshan of the Lords on Nabajoubana darshan day as illegal this being the Nabakalebara year and permission be granted for darshan by the devotees, the High Court served notices seeking replies from the secretary Law department, chief administrator SJTA, Shree Mandir Managing Committee, Endowment commissioner, collector Puri and SP Puri on the matter.
This year being the Nabakalebara year, SJTA has decided to ban darshan of the deities on Nabajoubana darshan day in view of the expected huge crowd of devotees and delay in rituals thereof.
The next hearing in the matter will be conducted on either June 23 or 24.
