Cuttack, June 28:
The Odisha High Court has sought an action-taken report (ATR) from the state government on the recommendations of Justice PK Mohanty Commission of Inquiry into the stampede in the Shri Jagannath temple at Puri in November, 2006 in which four devotees were killed.
A Division Bench of Justices AK Rath and BR Sarangi on Friday asked the government to submit the ATR within two weeks.
The directive of the court came while adjudicating a PIL filed by social activist Chittaranjan Mohanty pertaining to the safety and security of the devotees visiting the Puri temple.
However, the government, while responding to an earlier notice of the High Court in response to the PIL filed by Mohanty, informed that it has already accepted the Mohanty Commission’s recommendations that were submitted along with the report in the year 2009.
The petitioner Mohanty has also alleged that the temple is now a target of the terrorists and miscreants due to poor security measures.
Annexing a newspaper report, the petitioner has also referred to certain video clippings, which captured aerial views of the temple and were posted on the social media.
He has also alleged gross failure of the temple administration in disciplining the temple servitors.
