Cuttack, Aug 30:
Orissa High Court today rejected the public interest litigation (PIL) opposing the construction of Kusei bridge at Belabahali in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.
Hearing the case, the High Court rejected the petition and refused to interfere in the decision of the Technical Committee over the construction of the bridge.
Belabahali Anchalika Surakhya Manch, a local outfit spearheading the agitation, had filed a PIL in the High Court in this matter over shifting of the location and alteration in the design of the bridge. Following this, the court had directed the administration to halt construction work till Monday.
The court verdict has come as a blow to the villagers who had been agitating since last one year demanding shifting of the location of the proposed bridge over river Kusei on NH-215 at Belabahali. The local residents had been at loggerheads with the administration and the construction work was marred by protests.
Despite protests, the administration went ahead with construction at Siapada on August 16.
