Odisha HC quashes ‘casteist remarks’ case against MLA Dama Rout

Cuttack: In a huge sigh of relief for Paradeep MLA Damodar Rout before the elections, the Orissa High Court today quashed a case which was registered against him for allegedly making casteist remarks at a public meeting in 2010.

Rout had moved the High Court seeking rejection of the case against him.

He was accused of making the objectionable remarks at a public meeting in Kujang in Jagatsinghpur district about politicians Bibhu Prasad Tarai, Bishnu Das and a government official by referring the three as “Harijans”.

A case in this regard was registered against Rout in Kujang police station under provisions of SC and ST (Prevention of atrocities) Act.
