Cuttack, May 20:
The Orissa High Court today issued an interim stay order on the show cause notice issued by the director Municipal Administration to five councillors of the Dhenkanal Municipality as to why they should not be disqualified for remaining absent from the local body’s council meeting.
The court also ordered for not taking any action against the concerned councillors.
That apart, the court served notices to the state government, director Municipal Administration and Dhenkanal collector for putting on hold the notification for voting on the no-trust motion notice against the Municipality chairman until further orders on the basis of the notice issued by the Dhenkanal collector.
The court has fixed the next date for hearing in the matter on June 21.
Notably, ten councillors of the Dhenkanal Municipality on April 4 had sought permission to move a no-trust motion against Dhenkanal Municipality chairman Indramani Behera.
Following which Dhenkanal collector on April 11 had issued a notification fixing April 21 as the date for voting on the no-trust motion.
However, on April 19, just two days before the date for voting on the motion five councillors were served with show cause notice by the director Municipal Administration as to why they should not be disqualified for remaining absent from the council’s meeting.
On the basis of this notice, the collector issued a notice to put on hold voting on the no-trust motion notice until further orders.
As many as 18 councillors had moved the High Court challenging the collector’s notice.
