Cuttack, Nov 20:
Taking note of the delay in the construction of the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway, the Odisha High Court has issued notices to the state chief secretary, secretary, Union Surface Transport department, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) and Puri district collector.
A division bench of Justice Pradip Mohanty and Justice Biswajit Mohanty directed the aforesaid authorities to file counters while hearing a petition filed by advocate Nishikanta Mishra on Wednesday.
The bench also sought explanation from the state government on the steps taken by it to ensure traffic security arrangements at Pipili and Chandanpur bypass roads within two weeks.
The petitioner had alleged that while the Nabakalebara festival in Puri is scheduled next year, construction work of Bhubaneswar-Puri NH has been going at a snail’s pace.
While the NH construction work was scheduled to be completed by September last year, less that 40 percent of the work has been completed so far, he informed the court.
Acting on the contention of the petitioner that construction of roads had been affected at some places along the NH due to a stay order by the High Court, the bench vacated the stay order for demolition of a company premises near Bata Mangala and a temple at another place to expedite the construction work.
