Cuttack: The long-standing spat between police and lawyers eventually came to an end as the Orissa High Court lawyers today decided to withdraw the 78-day-long cease-work strike.

A formal announcement in this regard was made by the High Court Bar Association at a press meet here. The lawyers will resume their work in the court from tomorrow, the association said.

Earlier in the day, two constables and a havildar, who had allegedly attacked lawyer Debi Prasad Patnaik, sought an unconditional apology before the Orissa High Court.

The bench of Justice Chittaranjan Das, while hearing a petition filed by lawyer Patnaik, directed the police to prepare a guideline in this regard to avoid such clash in future.

It may be recalled that Patnaik had an argument with some cops in connection with a road accident at Nuabazar in Cuttack on August 28 night following which the policemen had allegedly beaten him.

Lawyers of the High Court Bar Association had been resorting to a cease-work strike after the incident demanding arrest of the policemen involved in the attack on Patnaik.
