Cuttack, Sept 30:
The Odisha High Court today granted interim relief from arrest to BJD MLA from Banki and former government chief whip Pravat Tripathy till October 13 in the chit fund scam case being probed by the CBI.
“The court ruled that CBI cannot arrest Mr. Tripathy till October 13. His plea for anticipatory bail will be taken up at the next hearing,” Tripathy’s counsel Pitambar Acharya told OST over phone.
“The CBI counsel could not produce any material that would warrant Mr Tripathy’s arrest. The raids at his residence and that of his associate and the scrutiny of their bank accounts yielded nothing. The only thing he could produce was a voice recording, which has no evidentiary value,” Acharya said.
The court had reserved its order after the hearing on Tripathy’s bail plea was completed on Monday.
This is going to be only an interim relief to senior BJD leader from any move by the CBI to arrest him till October 13 on charges of his complicity with the Artha Tatwa Group’s financial fraud.
Similarly, the court has asked Tripathy to cooperate with the CBI in its investigation and to keep it informed about his travel plans.
The court has also asked the CBI to submit the forensic lab report of the voice test that sought to match his voice in a recorded phone conversation with the voice recorded by the CBI during his interrogation.
