Cuttack, Sep 7:
Odisha High Court today posted the bail plea hearing of Satyam Sekhar Roul—the ‘so called’ son of controversial godman Srimad Sarathi Dev alias Santosh Roul—to September 22.
Satyam’s counsel Manas Chand had moved the bail petition on behalf of his client before the court. However, the court posted the next hearing to September 22.
The court of the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) in Cuttack had rejected the bail petition of Satyam on August 25.
Satyam is presently in judicial custody at Choudwar Circle Jail after the end of his remand period. The Crime Branch (CB) police had taken him on a three-day remand for further interrogation into the Sarathi Baba case.
Since the Crime Branch did not seek an extension of his remand, the court sent him to judicial custody. The father-son duo is lodged in Choudwar Circle Jail here after their remand period ended and the probe agency did not seek further remand for interrogation.
The self-styled godman Sarathi Baba was arrested on August 8 under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery with the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine forged document), 341 (wrongful confinement) 506 (criminal intimidation), 379 (theft) of the IPC and SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act (offences of atrocities against the members of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes).
On the other hand, Satyam, who had gone missing since the day the Baba hit the headlines for his alleged nefarious activities, was arrested by Crime Branch police from Mumbai and brought back to Odisha on August 19.
