Chief Secretary GC Pati today directed officials to ensure strict adherence to rules to ensure the quality of construction as well as maintenance of these roads, said an official release.

Pati also directed the integration of data on roads constructed in villages under this scheme and other schemes and connectivity to villages achieved and incorporation of the facts in ‘Odisha Sampad’.

The chief secretary asked the Rural Development department to update the data on this account in Odisha Sampad on an annual basis.

Pati advised the department to incorporate the data in the Asset Management System software on roads and bridges being developed by the Works department.

The state government has launched the Mukhyamantri Sadak Yojana to construct roads in villages having a minimum population of 100 persons left out under the Pradhan Mantri Sadak Yojana

The prime objective of the scheme is to construct at least one road in each village.

A high level committee with the chief secretary as the chairman has been constituted at the state level for implementation of the scheme.

Similarly, district level committees have been constituted with the collector as its chairperson.

All legislators of the district, chairmen of two-four panchayat samitis, project director DRDA, and executive engineers of Works and Rural Development departments of the concerned district are members of the district level committee.

It has been decided to include all roads identified in Malkangiri district under Mukhyamantri Sadak Yojana since it’s a backward and remote district.

A budget estimate of about Rs 907 crore has been made for construction of roads identified in the first phase. Construction of these roads will be undertaken with assistance from Nabard and state government’s own funds.
