Bhubaneswar, June 20:
The state BJP today cornered the Odisha government for failing to check the deteriorating law and order and not arresting the real culprits in the alleged PDS scam in Ganjam, the home district of chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
The BJP leaders, in a press conference, alleged that action was not taken against the real culprits behind diversion of the PDS wheat to flour-mills in the district as the supply department, mill owners and contractors are hand in glove.
The district administration had seized over 615 quintal of wheat from a flour-mill at Ralaba village, which was meant for the distribution under PDS. It had suspended the procurement inspector of Aska, Aurabinda Kothari and cancelled the transport license of Maheswar Parida recently, allegedly for their role in diverting the PDS wheat to flour-mills.
“It’s is only one instance of diversion of PDS items in the district. Large quantities of such items were being diverted to the mills without being distributed among the beneficiaries. It shows how the government is functioning and working for the welfare of people,” said Basant Panda, BJP law makers’ spokesperson.
A fact finding team of the party comprising Panda, Srimantini Jena, Samir Dey, Sameer Mohanty and Sajjan Sharma had visited the district to ascertain the real truth.
The BJP team also visited the families of rape victims in the district.
“The law and order has been deteriorating in the district while the government has preferred to look the other way. If this is what is happening in the home district of the chief minister, the situation in other parts of the state is anybody’s guess,” said senior BJP leader Samir Dey, adding, the police in Ganjam have failed to take action against the culprits involved in rape and muder of women.
