Keeping in view an expected gathering of 50 lakh people during the Nabakalebara Rath Yatra to be held on July 18, the Odisha government today approved a standard operating procedure (SOP) for its smooth management.
“All departments which are connected with the Nabakalebara festival have prepared their own disaster management plans. Taking all these plans together, Odisha State Disaster Management Authority has prepared a SOP for proper management of the eventualities,” said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) GVV Sharma.
Sharma said while prime focus will be given to traffic management, crowd control and to avoid possible stampede, fire safety, security on the beach and health will be the priority areas.
The SRC said SOP have been prepared for all possible eventualities while officials have been told what to do and what not to do during such situations. Booklets in this regard have been prepared and will be distributed among the officials who are put in charge of different works, the SRC said.
Odisha State Disaster Mitigation Authority (OSDMA) will conduct two mock drills ahead of the festival and teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) to be deployed at sea beach and Grand Road on the Rath Yatra day, Sarma said.
At least 30 first aid centres and 30 ambulance units would be deployed on the Grand Road on Rath Yatra day and close circuit cameras would be fitted both inside the temple and outside on July 18.
Moreover,tourists would also not be allowed to use unsafe buildings on either side of the Grand Road for safety reasons.
