The government has decided to raise the issue during the review meeting on steel sector to be attended by Union Steel secretary and Mines secretary at the state secretariat on May 12. The meeting will be presided over by chief secretary J K Mohapatra.

While Nalco is about to pay Rs 1095.07 crore as arrear to the Energy department, RSP has ED arrear of Rs 61.25 crore. However, both the matters are pending in the court. The case of Nalco is pending in the Supreme Court and the case of RSP, a subsidiary of SAIL, is sub-judice in Odisha High Court.

A total of Rs 1303.51 crore electricity dues have been pending on various industries as they have moved to either SC or the HC challenging the amount of duty charged by the Energy department, sources said.

“Since these three cases involve substantial electricity duty revenue, it is requested that the matter may be placed in the meeting of chief secretary with Union secretary, Ministry of Mines and Union secretary, Ministry of Steel,” said a letter of Energy department to Odisha Steel and Mines secretary.

Other industries with ED dues against them are Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd- IMFA, Paradeep Phosphates Ltd, Ballarpur Industries Ltd, Mangalam Timbers Production Ltd, Shree Mahavir Ferro Alloys Ltd etc.
