Bhubaneswar, June 28:
Within hours of the formal request from the Gobardhan Peeth in Puri seeking security for the Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, the Odisha Home department today said the state government would take appropriate steps to ensure adequate security to the Hindu seer.
Briefing the media, special secretary, Home, Lalit Das said the Director General of Police (DGP) has been asked to make special security arrangements for the Puri seer during his darshan of the Lords atop the chariots on the Rath Yatra day.
The response of the Home department came soon after the request made by the spokesman of the Gobardhan Peeth, Manoj Rath to provide security to the seer.
The request for security cover came following the faceoff between the Daitapati Nijog and the Shankaracharya over the issue of devotees climbing the chariots and touching the Deities during the festival.
