In another step towards promotion of tourism and art in the state, the Odisha government has initiated steps to set up a sand art park at Puri.
Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Dr Arabinda Padhee outlined various aspects of the proposed project.
The chief secretary asked Padhee to prepare a detail project report indicating the organizational structure, source of finance, timeline for implementation and submit it for approval.
The meeting discussed the creation of an institutional base for the project in the shape of a society with sufficient autonomy for functioning.
It was decided at the meeting to provide land to the Tourism and Culture department free of premium.
The chief secretary suggested formation of a site selection committee for the project that would require around 2-3 acres of land to develop the park.
The proposed project would attract tourists to the beach town, educate and train budding talents on sand art and provide amusement to amateur artists.
The project envisages providing services like regular training classes for interested artists, short-term course for tourists, creation of a sand sculpture gallery of international standards, establishment of a sand art photo gallery and sand animation studio.
Chief Secretary asked the department to utilize the expertise and experiences of internationally acclaimed Odia sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik in the planning and implementation of the project.
