Government of Odisha has ordered the relocation of 141 liquor shops located within a 50-meter radius of state and national highways, minister for Excise Damodar Rout informed the state Assembly on Wednesday.
As per statistics, there are 508 liquor counters within 50 meters of state highways and national highways passing through Odisha. 328 of these shops are foreign liquor off shops, 29 country liquors shops and the rest are on shops.
“Government of Odisha has passed a resolution on January 18 to relocate liquor counters located within 50 metres of state and national highways. The department of Excise has already ordered relocation of 141 liquor shops and is taking measures for the closure of the rest of the shops. The district collectors have been asked to send their proposal accordingly,” said the minister replying to a question of MLA Bhujabala Majhi.
